Kaja Pecnik was born in Sempeter pri Gorici, Slovenia, to Milena and Darko Pecnik. After high school she attended Faculty of Arts in Ljubljana and gained MA in Sociology and French. She first started acting at Siti Theater Ljubljana in a lead role as Mila in children play The real princess (2012) and tried herself as a ballet teacher in short film Réveil (2013) directed by Edina Dyachenko. Kaja then moved to Exeter, United Kingdom to forge a professional career in acting.
She was excepted in Cygnet Theatre, Exeter, United Kingdom where she started as Blanche Ingram in Jane Eyre (2013), followed by Sir Andrew Aguecheek in Twelfth Night (2014), Red Queen in Alice Through The Looking Glass (2014) and made her debut as an opera singer in concert In Love With Love (2014). She worked with directors and teachers such as Jemma Gross, Jacquie Crago and Mary King. Kaja also scored in short film Requiem (2014) directed by Ash Lockhart, where she played a girl who is murdered by a stalker as well as a writer in short film Working Title (2015) directed by Jack Wenman. Her performances as Mrs Betterton in Playhouse Creatures and 1 and Jamie in Nine / The Last Nickel can be now seen at Rosemary Branch Theatre in London in June. Kaja is also successfully pursuing her career in film with several contracts for this year.
